Out for a walk one morning, looking for inspiration, a squawking mass of iridescent feathers shot out of the hedge to my left. Immediately I knew what my next project would be.
The male pheasant is a most splendid bird. Its colours and patterns are vibrant and exciting to convey with fabric and stitch.
This embroidered collage is 120 x 90 cm (+7cm with frame) and it commands attention. From a distance it might appear 'painted' but as the viewer approaches, the many patterns and embroidery become evident. It is a celebration of this magnificent game bird, and it's colours sing against the lush green background of a spring day

Fabric collage has been carefully pieced. Each pattern is considered for colour, tone, scale and direction of print design. Once the collage is complete, it is embroidered with multiple different coloured threads.
