Mistaken identity - Bee

This bee portrait was inspired by a visitor to my studio. The bee was attracted to all the bright fabrics which I believe he mistook for flowers.

The photographs that I took on that day sat in my 'favourites' file for a few years before I took the plunge to create an outsized bee with fabric collage and stitch. The free motion embroidery gives a lovely light texture to the hairy body and the fabric design that I chose to use for the wings really worked well when pieced together.

The photo of the bee in flowers is the original textile, before being embroidered, which when completed has been professionally photographed for a very high quality print image demonstrating every stitch and detail.
