Up, up, and away

Description

Pure escapism.

Do you ever dream of flying? Dreaming of flying can signify hope, possibilities and freedom of expression. It may also reflect your strong will and is a reminder for you not to give up.

This piece was inspired by a memory of my first safari experience in 1991 when I visited Lake Manyara in Tanzania. I vividly remember the shimmering pink mass that lined the lake, and how that transformed, as I approached, to being able to distinguish individual flamingos.
Their out stretched necks and trailing legs are initially awkward as they take flight, and there is something slightly comical but also graceful which I have tried to capture

There are multiple (I lost count) patterned fabrics used in the collage, as well as 15+ coloured threads in the embroidery of these flamingos.

This pair of flamingoes are on an adventure together. Where might you like to escape to?
